Located at Jack’s House, the Manes Art Center of The Hampton Synagogue in Westhampton Beach engages members of the greater Hamptons community in high-quality works of art and cultural experiences for the educational and enhancement of all.
To achieve this, we collect, exhibit, document, record 20th and 21st-century art, and facilitate a range of artistic and educational activities for visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Art and culture build and bind community. In the spirit of The Hampton Synagogue, the Manes Art Center strives to serve as a welcoming and inclusive place, as well as an educational resource where everyone can experience, discover, and enjoy objects in our curated collection.
The quality and breadth of the Manes Art Center collection features an eclectic collection of modern, contemporary, and old master artists, as well as sculptures. Artists in the collection include Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Koons, Salvador Dali, Roy Lichtenstein, Marc Chagall, Yaacov Agam, Jim Dine, among others.
On permanent view in the Barnet Family Chapel is the work of world-renowned artist, Dale Chihuly, who designed and created the Chapel’s Fiore windows that allow natural light to interact with the space in dynamic harmony, Eternal Light, and the only Menorah of Chihuly’s illustrious career.
Dr. Harvey Manes has been a passionate collector of art for over 40 years and presently serves on the Board of the Nassau County Museum of Art (NCMA). He has lent numerous works from his collection to notable museums, including the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Heckscher Museum, NCMA, Jewish Museum-NYC, and others. He is the founder of the Manes Peace Prize Foundation which has donated more than a million dollars to numerous charities, individuals, and organizations that promote peace through art and education. He is also the author of the books “The Nobel Peace Prize and How it has Failed Us” and “Collecting Art: For Pleasure and Profit.” He has four grown children and lives in N.Y.C. and Westhampton Beach, where he is a benefactor of The Hampton Synagogue.

In a momentous occasion, the Hamptons Synagogue proudly unveiled the Manes Art Center at Jack’s House with the assistance of U.S. Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY). Dr. Harvey Manes cultivated an impressive collection of art, earning him a well-deserved position on the Board of the Nassau County Museum of Art (NCMA).
His generosity extended beyond private collection, as he lent numerous works to renowned institutions. The Manes Art Center sands as a tribute to his extraordinary legacy, symbolizing the profound impact of art and philanthropy in creating a world of harmony and understanding.
